So you bought your Vanworks van! Now what!? Where do you go and stay?
In this guide, we’ve compiled a list of our five favorite resources to help you discover incredible spots to stay on your van life adventures!
1. Harvest Hosts & Boondockers welcome
The Harvest Hosts & Boondockers Welcome app is our favorite resource for van lifers seeking unique and memorable stays. With over 8,800 locations in the lower 48 US states, Alaska, Canada, and Baja California, it’s safe to say you’ll likely have a location near you on the road.
- On the Harvest Hosts app, you’ll have the option to find a ton of really fun and unique stays such as at wineries, breweries, distilleries, golf courses, farms, etc.
- On the Boondockers Welcome app, you’ll be connected with gracious hosts all over the country who welcome you to park your van on their private property.
Both resources make life on the road much easier and provide you with unforgettable adventures along your van life travels.

2. iOverlander
iOverlander is a must-have app for any van lifer. It’s a crowd-sourced database of camper-friendly spots, from free campsites to paid RV parks. Users can leave detailed reviews and even upload photos, giving you valuable insights into each location.
Our pro tip is to always check if there have been recent reviews of a location, as some sites on the app frequently close.

3. Campendium
Campendium is a hidden gem for van life adventures. This comprehensive platform provides detailed information on a wide range of campsite and boondocking locations.
We find Campendium’s app to be more accurate than others when it comes to a location being open. They also have a pro membership called Roadpass Pro which gives you the option to sort sites by elevation and features more public land map options.

The Dyrt is an excellent resource for van lifers! The website and app have over 45,000 campgrounds across the US. The Dyrt is also super easy to use and streamlines the process of finding your ideal spot for your next van life adventure!
With the free version of The Dyrt, you have access to search all of the campgrounds in the database but the Dyrt Pro gives you access to dispersed camping maps offline and offers exclusive discounts to some sites.

5. freecampsites.net
As the name suggests, Freecampsites.net is your go-to resource for finding free camping spots all across North America. The website features an extensive database of free campsites, complete with user reviews and ratings.
Much like iOverlander though, some sites get closed, so always make sure there have been recent reviews of a location before you plan to stay at a spot.
